Default Volvo240 that died out

Hello...I have a 1987 Volvo 240. I have a question for anyone out there. I was driving down the road, doing about 40mph, went to accelerate, and noticed no acceleration. There was also a distinct smell of gasoline. I turned into a parking lot, and then it stalled altogether. Got it pushed into a parking spot, but then nothing. I try to start it, and the starter cranks, but it will not start. Does anyone out there have any suggestions? Does it sound like a clogged fuel filter? Please send your feedback.
Thank you,
Duke

Did you check carefully for a fuel leak? If you smelled gasoline there was probably a leak somewhere. It is possible that the fuel filter clogged up, but that alone wouldn't explain the gas smell. Use a flash light and look closely at as much of the fuel line as you can see and look at the tank to see if there are any dried spots where fuel has run down the side. If fuel has been leaking, there should be some sort of trail somewhere. Remove the fuel filter and see if you can blow through it with out and back pressure.
David.

Hello duke

It is possible the fuel leak, but also the fuel relay sends a signal to pump gasoline, this failure is very common in this model, I had two 240
