Default ´95 960 Engine Tech Specs

Folks,

Having driven several Volvos, I´m currently negotiating a 1995 960 Sedan in extremely good shape. This beauty was always a dream for me and it seems I´m THIS close to get her into my garage.

There´re, however, some doubts:

The 2.9L 6Cyl-Inline-Engine figures in some tech specs with 181cv, on others with 204cv. I figure there might be some different versions for different markets (emissions?!)

The brazilian market AFAIK always received the 204cv version. But since the car mentioned above was firstly sold to diplomatic service, there might be a possibility that it comes with a downpowered engine (that´s anyway what the documents say, 181cv) from a european or whatever market.

How can I identify this for sure?

What modifications have been done on this engine to meet emissions?

If it was the case above, is it possible to "open" the engine and what is needed to achieve this?

Should I really consider such a modification or is the difference neglectable?

For all your answers, Thanks in advance!

I would think the vin would reveal which engine you have. Even if you have the 181 CV I can't see the value in opening up the engine for the minimal increase to 204CV.

Definitely the 181 hp engine. I´ve researched furthermore - one can find anything useful between piles of internet garbage - and figured that it is all about torque ranges. The 181 hp counts with even more torque on lower revs than the 204hp engine. That does it for me and I agree that it would probably be complete nonsense to try anything like "opening" that engine.

Thanks for your Welcome and answer. I´ll post some pics.
