Need help with my 850
My 850 starts fine but within the first mile of driving, it stalls out acting as if it is getting no fuel. In a matter of seconds, it picks back up and runs fine for the rest of the day.
Is there a sensor or something that I should be looking at to correct this problem? I would appreciate any help or suggestions.
1996 850 non-turbo, manual trans.

Hello,
I am an admitted amateur; however, I do have the Mitchell On-Demand CD for Volvos and I found out that your '96 non-turbo m/t 850 has a connection for scan tools at the front of the gear shift on center console. A generic scan tool may be used but is not as comprehensive as the Volvo scan tool. Anyway, this is how trouble codes are retrieved on your model. This may help. It sounds like the fuel pump may be going bad...I really don't know. But if you're able to retrieve the DTCs (diagnostic trouble codes) you might find something out.
Also, there is a way to test the fuel pump but it requires a scan tool and an ammeter. Good luck!

how do i get the air out of the cooling system?
G'Day,
Hey kennbre, I have the same with almost 316,000km on the clock and still running ok. What year is yours? Is an Estate(don't like the term wagon)or a sedan?
Anyway's.
The coolant overflow tank is the highest point in the system and as such any air in the sytstem will eventually end up there.
If you are filling the system, from empty, fill through the overflow tank slowly, engine running, and as the system fills it will force the air back through the expansion tank causing some bubbling and the coolant will be drawn into the system.
Continue until the coolant level is, seen on the side of the tank, reaches the min line and stop adding coolant.
Continue to let the engine run and watch the tank until all of the bubbling stops and then top up to the max line and put the cap on.
If you go for a short drive and then wait for the system to be totally cold again you can check the level to make sure it isn't down. If so top it up and it will be fine.
If it does go down again then you may have a leak somewhere but I doubt that this will be the case with yours.
Reward yourself with your favorite beverage for a job well done.

Testing, one, two, three. Sorry about this, trying to change my signature pic so that you can actually SEE the car. Finally
There now you can see the car. This is before I painted the trim, bumpers, mud guards and handles.
What does yours look like?
I showed you mine :-), now show me yours. LOL
I'll update shortly.

Hey Kennbre,
Don't worry about the spelling. Even people with english as their first language have trouble spelling :-).
As long as you can get good useful information, that is the important thing ;-).
My car is a 1994 with just over 316,000km on it.
I have had it for almost three years.
I haven't had a chance, as yet, to make any modifications as I had an engine failure late last year and I'm just about finished paying for it :-)).
I have just finished up the painting of the trim, bumpers, windshield and rear window wipers and the door handles.
It's nice to have them all the same colour. The Anvil now looks much better but there is still more to do. OH, I also removed the VOLVO Emblem's off of the fenders and replaced them with side markers. NOW, that looks SWEEEEET
Here is what I started with:
Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket
And this is what it looks like after all of the painting was done.

I apologize if some of the shots are a little fuzzy. They don't seem to be in the right order either, but, you get the idea.
I'm just waiting for a sunny day and I'll take a bunch of pic's and post a link.
OH YA. Did I mention that I changed the factory deck our for a Pioneer DEH-3900MP, (http://www.alphacaraudio.co.uk/image.../deh3900mp.jpg ) so I could have a disc player, and I added an Acer Aspire 3100(http://i.pricerunner.com/prod/8_12_9...e_3100_AS3100-) for real entertainment and navigation.
Lots to do to The Anvil and I'll update later.
Snakk med deg, senere. :-)
I hope that is right.
