Default SRS-Airbag Service Urgent

Greetings Fellow VF Members,
I hope you are enjoying the weather whereever your location today. I just returned home from a date with my little angel (6 month old daughter).

When I pulled into the driveway, the information center flashed, "SRS-Airbag Service Urgent". I turned the engine off for a few minutes. When I turned it back on, it was still there so I took another quick drive. I guess this isn't going to turn off so I need to visit the service center, again.

Has anyone experienced this warning? Any thoughts?

By chance have you had any recent work or installations performed on your car?

Yes, the regularly scheduled maintenance was done about 2-3 weeks ago.

You could try disconnecting the battery to see if it will reset, but you are probably going to have to take it back so they can clear the code. It is a quick process.

Default SRS Failure - Service Urgent

I just got the same SRS Service Urgent message. My Volvo certified mechanic is suggesting that the cause is electrical and that the Dashboard has to be rebuilt. I'm wondering if my car is safe to drive? are my airbags disabled when this message is on?

Hi 2003V70,
We use our XC90 on the weekends and for vacations. On the weekends, we average between 40 - 100 miles running around town going to events such as the never-ending toddler birthday parties.

Anyway, I didn't stop driving when I noticed the error. I thought it was a glitch that required the dealer to reset the computer. On the other hand, it was Saturday when I received the error so I wasn't planning on driving it after Sunday anyway.

Looking at my invoices, I didn't take it to the dealer until 7/13/09. I remember that they didn't have the part on my initial visit. It took 2 days for the part to arrive so it wasn't fixed until 7/15/09. I didn't leave it with them, I drove it home and took it back 2 days later.

My issue seemed to be a bad sensor but your issue sounds more severe. Maybe you should consider a second opinion. For your convenience, here is the information from my invoice:

SRS Light on ... USE SPO 09194009
Access Code SRS 0211, Replaced out of Range R/F Impact

Part Number - SPO 30724677
Description - Sensor

Parts $97.41
Lab-Mechanical $153.60
Total Charge for Concern 251.01

I hope this helps!

Keep me posted on the outcome.
