72 1800E overheating?

Hi everyone,
I am new here. Just bougth this beatifull 1972 Red 1800E, in fine condition. The radiator has a single fan, and it is electrically activated (no thermostat). I have to keep an eye on the water temperature, and switch the fan on depending on speed, air temperature, etc. to avoid spilling coolant through the vent in the small bottle next to the radiator.
I was just wondering if it would be possible to replace the single fan, with a dual fan kit, and a thermostat, so the water temperature is better managed and cared for. I fear this will be a big issue when the hot weather returns to Texas in 6 months.

There are lots of places selling electric cooling fan kits. I'd check with an Air Conditioning or Trailering shop - many of these specialize in this.

A good resource is FlowKooler. They have electric kits with thermostat for most vehicles.

This would also be a good time to check the rad condition. Many of these fan kits mount through the fins of the rad and if it's in poor condition, you'll not be happy with the fit or the actual cooling. A new rad, coolant and hoses would be smart idea on any old car.

One of the most important systems on the car is the cooling system. The cooling system helps to keep the temperature inside the engine to normal operating levels. Engines create massive amounts of heat while running. The friction from a metal on metal operation means that the internal temperature can reach one thousand degrees or more in a short period of time. For this reason automobiles have a liquid cooling system that constantly circulates fluid to keep the engine below a certain temperature.
