I replaced the water pump on my 1972 1800ES and had some difficulty in removing the fan clutch (part #688016) and its clutch flange (part #460531). I’d like to keep it near as stock as possible but has anyone ever replaced these two pieces with a single fan clutch/fan assembly from a 140 or 240 series (part #1306259)? From dimensions I’ve found on the internet, it looks like the flange that bolts to the water pump would be the same diameter but would the bolt pattern match since the 1800ES and the 140/240 water pumps are different? The overall height of the 140/240 assembly would be less than the original 1800ES design but would it be “close enough” to not need a spacer? And I’d need a 140/240 series fan too but all-in it looks like it would be a more economical route to go than trying to go back with the original design if it’s a workable direction to head. I’d appreciate the advice.
