I was wondering if anyone knew if it is possible to replace a 4-speed M45 transmission with a 5-speed M47 transmission in a 1976 242 DL, without significant modification. I am aware it would probably entail replacing components of the driveline as well, and possibly a different clutch. I am also under the impression that they are both mechanically operated transmissions, as in, no hydraulic master/slave cylinders involved.

I am also curious about anyone's opinion of the M47 5-speed transmission, especially in comparison to the M46 4-speed with overdrive. I have heard that the M47 is a bit weak, but I have a 100 horsepower B21F engine and am not planning on enhancing it's power output.

Thank you for your opinions :)
