My car has been stalling at low speeds or when idle, and sometimes not starting.
My remedy is to push the accelerator upon starting and give it some gas for a minute, and this will get the car going.
I'm trying to make a road trip in a month and wonder if this is something to worry about, or if highway driving will be better for the car.

I would take it on a 'short' highway drive now to determine if you will have an issue. You don't want it to break down on you on your trip. I would want to get this addressed before going on a trip. Has it been tuned up recently? Has long has it been since the fuel filter has been replaced?

Thanks for your response.
I got a tune up last week, and the mechanic (not a volvo specialist) said it was running great. Which it is running better, but for the continued stalling. He replaced the spark plugs, and the only other issue he noticed was a shaky engine which could be fixed by setting up braces on it. Not too pressing, he said, so I haven't had that done yet.
The fuel filter was replaced in January.
Do you suggest using higher grade gas or one of these products that removes buildup?
I will take it on a highway drive and see how it responds. It's been all neighborhood stop-and-go driving recently.
