Just picked up this up about a month ago. I notice when leaving the line, there is a slight hesitation then a thud, clunk before the car starts to move. Does anyone have any idea on what it could be?

Are you sure it is in your transmission? Do you get the same in reverse? What about after you move does the sound ever appear again?

My wife's 2001 XC70 did the same thing. The service people said it was not uncommon in the earlier models. Something to do with one of the (many) computers. We had it fixed .Cost Aust$284. No problems since. Hope that helps a bit

Hello. I have a 99xc70 that has a clunk when i first "drive" in reverse. Sometimes i hear it when I'm starting from the line in drive.....computer????

I just had my clunk repaired at Volvo Dealership in Mississippi. It would hestitate from 1st to 2nd, then drive perfectly. As time went on, approximately 2 months, it got worse and then the alert message appeared "service Tranmission uregent". $5049.00 later I had to have a new transmission, alternator and module that goes with the transmission.

I have NEVER had a problem with my 01 XC70 CC AWD til now.... it has 130,000 miles and the new transmission is under warranty for 12 months....

Hope your problem is minor and a less costly one than mine..........
