We recently purchased a 2004 XC70. There is a weird sound coming from the glove compartment area when the a/c is not running. When I turn it on it seems to stop? Any idea what it might be? It is like a churning sound.
No warranty, we bought it from a private seller but I did take it to my mechanic before we bought it and he didn't find anything worth mentioning. I will check and see if it does with when the recirculating air is turned off and let you know. Thank you so much for responding I really appreciate the help!
I turned off the air recirculator button and the sound reduced but was still audible. Do you think it is some I should be concerned about it is more annoying then anything.
It's hard to troubleshoot a sound over the internet. I don't think it is a safety issue, but could be an indication of an a/c issue that could leave you 'heated up' on a hot day!
Does it make the sound with the A/c blower fan completely turned off? Is it almost like a buzzing noise? The damper motors that move the air distribution vents can get noisy. Also some vehicles had issues were the motors would constantly "hunt" for position. Some were fixed with a software download others simply needed a recalibration of the CCM (Climate Control Module). For either you will have to go to a dealer!
