Can someone post a pic of the dipstick location for the transmission for the V8? Do I have to remove the air box? Anyone flush the fluid before?
Also if not wearing your seatbelt sound a light flash? My dealer says that volvos do not have this feature. I find that hard to believe.

Thanks,
Brett

There is a dip stick...it's just that it's location is very hidden. Volvo doesn't want us to touch it. If you look under your larger intercooler pipes from the front of your car, just to the right of your engine, you'll find it way down deep...it has a yellow handle, and a clasp on the under side you have to push it to get your dipstick out. Btw, Volvo transmissions don't have a filter. Some people add "magnetically charged" in-line filters to their tranny lines...not a bad idea, really.

You may want to check this out: www.ipdusa.com/Products...D=629
Altough it's a "for sale" section of IPD, the pdf file in the middle of the page shows you how to do the flush (if you choose to let your mechanic do this), and the instructions are good....same instructions for most all FWD/AWD Volvo's.

Judging by the engine layout when you say right you mean the driver's(left) side. So the dipstick is under the airbox? I look some more, probably with a machinist's mirror. Let me know if you have any pictures. BTW where is the best place to get service manuals??
Thanks for the reply.

Sorry Sulley but a 2006 XC90 V8 does not have a dipstick on the transmission. It only has a T55 torx on top of it. Which I am told serves as a check plug. I'll give out any additional info as I found out.

Tranny dipstick

Volvo does not want us to do flushing. Just like a free maintenance battery. Call the dealer regularly when you think a service is needed like timing belt at 168k then after that tranny service and they will even tell you what service is needed.
