Hi,

I'm looking at an 83 Sedan and wanted to know if the key for the ignition would be the same key used for the trunk? I seem to recall that older (like in the 60's), Volvo's used to have a separate, smaller key for the trunk. The owner did not seem to know if there was another key or not.

Thanks!

I don't have a sedan, only a wagon (have had three over the years - one now).

For the wagons, the same key works both the ignition and the rear hatch. An additional key that came with each vehicle works the lock in the glove box and the lock in the storage area inside the back of the wagon - right where many vehicles have their spare tire.

If the Volvo sedans are consistent, the same key works both the ignition and the trunk, with an additional (smaller) key for the glove box.

Unfortunately, all I have for this sedan is the valet key. I ended up removing the back seat of the car and reaching through the ski pass through to unbolt the trunk parts from the body of the car. At least I can now get the trunk open to fix the lights. However, I still don't have a key for the trunk (and now, no lock either).
