HU-613 radio for 2002 S60

I am new to this forum and I am hoping that I an find the solution to my radio problem. It is a HU-613 for a 2002 S60. The radio works just great but the light does not work so I can't see the station that I am listening to. Also, the radio buttons on the steering wheel do not work. My husband has cleaned the fuse, replaced the fuse, bent the fuse and it always cures the problem but just for a little bit. Then, it comes back. The dealer says that I need a new radio ($700!) but we have heard from a few people about a software upgrade but can't get that confirmed by the dealer. If I need a new radio, is there somewhere other than the dealer that I can buy one perhaps a used one? I am hoping that someone has the answer to this dilemna.

The dealer is right, the only repair is to replace the radio. I'm not sure what to say about the fuse trick making it work for a short time, I would suspect that's coincidental because that should have no effect on the operation of the radio lighting or wheel button operation. You could possibly find a used radio but you must have the VIN number of the original vehicle it came out of to be able to obtain the radio unlock code. There are occasionally software updates available for the various modules in the vehicle but I suspect an update will not cure your problem. You could also consider an aftermarket radio. Good luck :)

You cant use a used radio, the radio is software driven, once it is downloaded into a vehicle, that vehicle owns it! Taking a radio out of another vehicle will upset the network. Also on the S60 there is no unlock code needed and no way to put on in! You can go after market but this will interupt the communication on the CAN network possibly turning on your SRS light

Just out of curiosity, I just called one of my techs at the Volvo dealer I work at and he said it is true that there is no security code on an 02 S60 (my bad) but you can use a used radio if you go to the dealer afterwards and have a software reload done.

If you try to download a software reload the software will come back as a mismatch, trust me! once you program a module to the vehicle it belongs to that vehicle! Thats one reason why if you install a module and download software you cant return it!
