Hi jon,new member and just need some advise,i,m thinking of buying a 1996 850 tdi seven seat estate,it has done 250k miles,he says it doesnt smoke and its had new clutch and cam belt.it has leather and is fully loaded with all the toys which all work.
Just wondering as this is my first volvo,what should i be looking for with this car?

Do you think I will be okay with having a mechanic evaluate it or should I spring for the extended warranty. Also, I've read some consumer reviews on kbb which seem to be saying that the volvo was a problematic car with many trips to the repair shop. This is contrary to what volvo owners that I have asked are saying. Please if you could give me your insight as some who services these beauties; because I really am in love with the car.

Hey Jon,
I have a 2001 S80, I am trying to revmove the interior trim on the Drivers side to get to the Seat belt retractor (not releasing). I have the lower part popping out, the top feels like if I pull any harder something will break. Is there a release under it that I need trip? I've tried sliding it up or down.
Solved....
There are clips under the rubber weather striping, so pull that back at the top corner near the post that contains the seat belt tensioner.

Hi Jon,I hope you still use this website. I need some help understanding Volvo trucks. I am from India and the trucks I have are of the FM400 making. I am also an electronics engineer and so I am trying to develop my own scan tool for these trucks. I realized that my trucks use the SAE J1708 protocol. I recently connected my circuit to the truck and I got a display which said 'Check Data Link Broken' ,on the LCD display besides the speedometer. Can you tell me under what circumstances does the truck display such a message?

Hi Jon, thanks for taking time to answer these qustions,I have 96 960 volvo where i have been hearing a winding noise coming from the bell housing area of the transmission, the noise is there when the vehicle is idleing and while it's driving,i am thinking it could be the trans oil pump, it havent loose any power, do you have any idea what it could be or if you ever come across any issue like this, thank again.

I have a 04 s60R with 83,000 trouble free miles on it.The owners Manuel doesn't say anything about when, or whether too changing the transmission fluid. I have heard people say you don't have to change the fluid in the R, but i find that hard to believe. I love this car, and want to keep it in top form. Also, what type of fluid would you use. Your thoughts please. Tks. Rman

Hello, I am Jon from Seattle Wa. area. My 99 v70's turn signals have a mind or their own. Some times the work fine but most of the time you will get nothing including no indicator lights in the instrument cluster. When I first started having the problem it seemed to be related to the position the ignition key but now there is no rhyme or reason for when they work. Some one suggested it was most likely the ignition its self but I am a little leary about buying parts before I have a better idea what it might be. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time. Jon

Have an 09 S60 2.5 SE. Rear passenger tire tends to wear quicker than rest. Any suggestions
Had an 98 S70 Igniton position played a major role. If it wasn't just right couldn't get it out of park.

Whenever I brake, my car veers off to one side... either side in this case. and after that when I accelerate... again the same thing happens. Please advise what the issue might be.

Hi i have a question about my brake lights, im having problems with the lower 2 working, the 3rd light works, so i know my pressure switch is working, i checked the bulbs they look good, im thinking it might be a bad ground but im not shure, any advice would be greatly appriciated.

I'm having problems with my 96' 960.
it wont start and none of my electrics work eg. cd player, windows etc. and lights on my dash are dim
i've tried jump starting it and still same problem.. at first i thought it was my starter or solenoid until i realised none of my electrics work. battery also seems to be in good working order. any ideas?

I recently purchased the 850 with the driver seat in recline position and unable to upright/adjust because motor runs but does not engage upper part of seat.

Hello, my name is Kris. My boyfriend and I just bought a 1994 850 non-turbo. It is is very awesome condition. It has a few little issues but I think it is things that we can fix with some time and effort. Was wondering Jon about a check engine code that we got from reading the codes. The code was 241 which says EGR system, flow malfunction. Was curious if you think that it is the EGR valve or something else in that line. The car runs great. It has some other issues as well, like the odometer and the trip meter dont work. The blower motor speeds do not work at all but it does put out alot of heat in the car. The fuses for the speeds are all ok. If you could give us some ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.
