Hello. There is a "clunk" when I start to drive in reverse. I have a 1999 xc70. Sometimes my car "hesitates" when starting from the line. Any help before i get it checked out ($$$) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

How many miles on the car?

Could just be backlash in the drivetrain. Don't forget, with four wheel drive there are LOTs of extra parts underneath. Transfer case, second differential, two more drive axles. All these parts have some clearance built into them to allow them to work smoothly. With age comes wear so it might just be normal. New or unusual vibration would signal something to check.

Extra maintenance is is a cost of AWD.

Has 112,000 miles on it. Has newer driveshaft. I bought it about 2 mths ago. This vehicle does run smootly though.???? Thanks for the input.
