1998 s70, owned since new, sputter,putted and won't start, regular maintence, no fuel pressure at injectors fuel line, no pressure at fuel filter, no noise at fuel pump, no scanner, old mechanic, modern vehicle, fuel pump???

Fault seems to suggest that , provided the fuse for the pump is still OK . Worth checking out if there is power getting to the pump .

Also, did you per chance hit a bad pothole or recently have any other kind of strong, jarring impact the the vehicle? If so, I believe the S40s (as in most, if not all newer cars) have an automatic fuel-pump shut-off if the vehicle senses an "impact" to avoid potentially spilling fuel in the event of a collision. I actually had this happen to me in another car (not a Volvo) after hitting a nasty pothole.
