I am new to Volvos, I will skip the details but I ended up with several Volvos in my possession.

I have a 1984, 1985, 1986, tow 88's and an older 82 240 all will crank and will run if I remove the vacuum line that goes to the fuel recovery canister and spray some carb cleaner in this port. (This avoids solvents on what I think it the MAF sensor out of the air filter box). The cars have been sitting for several years without power. Is there some re-initialization sequence or way to start the pumps or did all these fuel pumps go bad? The cars were driven to their current parking spot.

Sometimes when these things sit for a long time, the fuel dries up in the pumps and clogs/corrodes them so that they need to be replaced or removed and cleaned. Do they hum? Was there any fuel left in the tanks? What do the tanks smell like? Is there fuel in the tank now? Is there any fuel pressure when power goes to the pump(s). Is there power at the pump (fuse).

Fuel in tanks: Yes
All fuses are good and some were warm but I did not check power at fuse box.
Relays click but I have not tested them yet.
Pumps do not hum when key is first turned on.
I put a self-priming Holley pump on one of the fuel lines today trying to suck fuel up to the injector rail. No fuel so it looks like gum and varnish may have plugged the pumps or filter on this one. I put 4 gallons of fuel in and the fuel gauge did not move so I suspect the tank float is stuck until I clean it.
The fuel smells like very old gas on all of them.

Thanks, you gave me the basic information. I wanted to be sure I was not over looking something that was special to Volvo fuel delivery systems.

If folks are curious I will post what I did as I figure each one out.
