hello, I have a 94 volvo 850, with a aftermarket stereo system in it and. i am getting flashing headlights and interior lights at higher volumes. I have put a audio capacitor in, and upgraded the alternator/ground wiring in the car to 1/0 gauge.. and still have flashing lights, that tells me i need to upgrade the alternator. it is a stock 100amp alt.. and the problem i have is i cant find a high output anywhere.. does any one know where i can find one.. or one that will fit.. with little modification. also if i do find one what else will i need? will i need a new rectifier? or any other upgrades?

Have you had your current one checked to make sure it is operating correctly?
Hello and thank you for the reply.
yes my alt is working very well. my problem is my aftermarket audio amp is pushing a constant 900 watts rms. 1800 watts peak. my amplifier stats say it is using a constant 60 amps at anytime and 90 amps peak at higher volumes. that is no doubt pushing the capabilities of my 100 amp stock alternator.

i am looking to find a 140-200amp alternator. i have looked everywhere on the internet and cant find a upgrade for the volvo only stock 100amps.
i need to know if anyone knows where i can find a h/o alt for the volvo or one that could be made to fit. with some modification.

you may need to either a second alternator and build a mount for an aftermarket one. either way your looking at a bit of custom fabricating. i know a guy who had similar issue (albeit in a chevette) and he ran a seperate alternator just for the stereo which ran off basically it's own circuit with it's own alternator and it's own battery. it was a neat setup that worked well was a big pain to do.
