I fallen in love with the S80 after test driving one a few months ago and I'm not a car lover. I've owned an Alpha Romeo, Saab 900 and Sahara Jeep. Five years ago, following a change in life I purchased and have been content with driving a '98 Ford Contour. I've decided I am ready to own a more substantial car. My budget puts me in the '05 '06 price range and the cars I've been seeing have mileage between 62k and 80k. That concerns me, should it? I am planning to have the car approved by a mechanic who would administer the computerized diagnostic testing.

I guess my obvious question is whether it is advisable to purchase an extended warranty and how much more should I expect to pay for one. As always it's a matter of price, would it be foolish to attempt to save by not purchasing the extended warranty that covers bumper to bumper. Or is there even such a thing for a car of that age and mileage?

Advise is needed and appreciated.

If there are maintenance records the mileage shouldn't be too much of a concern. Also having it inspected is valuable as it sounds you are going to do. Extended warranties are always a gamble. Probably about $1,000 or so depending on the amount of deductible you choose. If you do get one you have to follow up and make sure the dealer activates it. I had purchased one and months later the dealer never activated.
