non start-security issue?

Had my son's '96 850GLT at the house for the week. I went to start it this AM and no start. Tried a jump and a working battery without any luck. Horn started blowing and had to disconnect battery to get it to stop(630 am sun. morning!). It seems like some security isuue but I don't have a clue. Within 15 minutes the vehicle started.
What I'm I missing ? (besides the owners manual) These kids!!!
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum Al. Is everything operating properly now or are you still having issues. When you tried to start did the engine turn over or was it completely dead?

It was completely dead even after a cable jump and after installing battery from my Camry. That's why I figured it must be a security issue. Seems like the car was sensing someone trying to steal it. By some miracle the car finally started(with it own battery) I did nothing. I assume the system reset itself. My neighbors can't be too happy ,since the horn started blowing at 6:15 AM on Sunday morning. When I returned the car to my son he informed me that all I had to do to stop the horn was to insert the key in the door and flip it back and forth a few times (is this correct?) Based on the above, any info would be appreciated.
Thanks for responding. I'm now returning to the Corvette Forum, where I feel at home!
He is on track, once the car realizes the key is being used it will disable the alarm.
