I was told my left cv boot is leaking and needs replacement and was quoted almost $1000 CDN. I have a 2008 S40. The mechanic was not helpful and I don’t know much about cars, so your help is greatly appreciated. How long can I can go without replacing this? I don’t drive much during the pandemic (less than 500km per month) and was already planning to upgrade my car next spring. Can I hold off or does this need to be replaced asap? Thanks for your help.

That price is way overpriced for replacing just the boots! Unless your getting the entire CV-shaft in a factory Volvo box I don't understand why they would charge you 8 hours labor for a job that takes an hour. $1000 dollars for a cv boot that cost $20 and 1 hour labor...there estimate just doesn't add up.
