smelly diesel!!

Hi all. I just wondered if anyone can tell me why my V40 1.9d estate smells of diesel fumes so much. I start her up and a bit of excess gray smoke appears, I accelerate and excess gray smoke appears. I can live with that but when i turn the heaters on i can smell fumes through the blower and if im parked up with the engine running and get out all around the car smells of diesel fumes. She does use a bit compared to my old pug 206 1.9d but that would run on a fart and this one has done over 250000. If anyone can help please cos aint got a clue
