Both local and online parts suppliers (including dealer) say that for the 1994 Volvo 940, there are three options for the steering rack, and that none are interchangeable. Nobody can tell me how to identify which type I have, and I need to find out, because the old unit is leaking. Any ideas?

If it's a 94 you can almost bet it is a koyo. I'm familiar with what they look like personally. Remover or loosen both inner ties with pipe wrench if you don't have the correct tool. If the one on the passenger side has smaller threads than the one on the driver side it's definitely a koyo. If the rack is leaking you can put any rack in its place however the koyo is one of the easiest turning racks at slow speeds. Love it. Koyo should be written on it somewhere also. The outer ties are the same for all the racks and so is the connections so any of them will fit. Good luck.
