I own a 2002 XC70 with 87K miles. I believe my struts/shocks are now blown/destroyed by our local potholes. The car rides terrible and hits hard on bumps. When you hit bumps/holes/bad places in the pavement, there is a rattle of sorts coming from the suspension, almost like the strut mounts are bad. More of a knocking sound I guess. And it does not take much of a hit to create this knocking sound. Very pronounced upon bigger hits at higher speeds and the car simply rides really rough now.
So where does one find replacement struts/shocks for this car. I understand from the Volvo dealer that this car took "multiple" strut/shock types and that he needed some number off the firewall to get the "right" struts/shocks. My car does NOT have self leveling shocks. It is an automatic.

I looked at Bilsteins site but everywhere I search they mostly list V70 cars and NOT XC70 versions. HELP!

I guess I could go with Sachs but prefer a better system i.e. Bilsteins, KYB etc.
Thanks.;)

Solved

Get this, the Volvo dealer wanted almost 1700.00 for the parts, let alone the labor.
So I called IPD USA and they have the right ones for about 450.00 or so, which is a lot better. Plus they have the bearing plate, strut mount etc. So that's the route I'm going.;):D

The real fix

Found out today that it is/was not the struts that were/are bad. Actually, it was the front sway bar links that were worn out. Once replaced all the sounds went away and the car rides and drives like it should. So I saved even more money by going this route. Maybe this will help somebody else.;)
