I wonder if anyone has any tips on how to remove the driveshaft on my S70? We are in France and preparing it for the French Controle Technique and the rubber boot is split. Has anybody removed the complete driveshaft on this model? Is there anything to restrict me withdrawing the complete driveshaft from the gearbox? I have already freed the driveshaft from the hub and the disc and have that end supported with string, as I can not hammer out the cv joint from the shaft as it will not come out. Any tips please??

I don't know about the Volvo drive shafts but my experience suggests that they need to be prised out from the gear box end but using a wedge or similar. MOST drive shafts are the same principle . You will THEN be able to seperate the cvjont and fit the new boot

Thank you for taking the time to reply. All done now - as you suggest it was a matter of carefully prising out. It's a bit of a worry when doing that (with any part) in case of doing some damage, but we have the old gal back on the road now.
