Hello Volvo Forums Fam,

I have 1994 Volvo 850 (approx 215,000 miles). This morning on the way to work, the 'Coolant Level Sensor' light came on. So I pulled over twice and unscrewed the cap on the expansion tank & topped off the coolant. When I arrived at work, the light was on again, so I unscrewed the cap (in hopes to vent the heat) and all of the coolant came out. I filled the expansion tank up to the Max fill line and hopefully that will solve the problem.
Back in May/June, I was putting water in the reservoir (because I ran out of coolant). I am hoping that the water is what was overheating and now that coolant has been flushed through the system, everything will return to normal.
Any guidance you can provide is greatly appreciated.
FYI - I replaced the thermostat & reservoir back in January.

Thanks,

Tony

It would seem that you have a leak. You need to find it and fix it. You do not want to keep overheating your car. 50/50 anti-freeze mix has a higher boiling point than straight water, but just running water only in your cooling system will not make your car overheat.
