The Volvo Ocean Race (formerly the Whitbread Round the World Race) is a yacht race around the world, held every three years.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volvo_Ocean_Race#cite_note-Volvo_Cars.C2.A0.E2.80.93_Volvo_Ocean_Race-0 It is named after its current owner, Volvo.
Though the route is changed to accommodate various ports of call, the race typically departs Europe in September or October, and in recent years has had either 9 or 10 legs, with in-port races at many of the stopover cities. The current race started in Alicante, Spain, on October 11, 2008.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volvo_Ocean_Race#cite_note-Volvo_Cars.C2.A0.E2.80.93_Volvo_Ocean_Race-0 The route for the 2008-2009 race has been altered from previous years to include stopovers in the Middle East and Asia for the first time. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volvo_Ocean_Race#cite_note-1 This latest route covers nearly 39,000 nautical miles, will take over nine months to complete, and is expected to reach a cumulative TV audience of 2 billion worldwide

Yeah its a great fun in this race and now the Volvo Ocean Race has also disclose the details of the new high-performance boat that will be used for the next two editions of the Race. The plans will appreciably reduce the cost of mounting a competitive campaign and are designed to bring the size of the fleet to 8 to 10 boats in future editions.
