I wrote to Volvo to ask them if there is a way to retrieve my radio code from the factory system BEFORE I disconnect it to install an after market stereo. I may decide to reinstall the factory radio some day and I thought that I would need a code. This reply from Volvo is not at all what I expected:

Good Afternoon Bill....
Thank you for contacting me at Volvo Cars of North America.
Your 2001 V70 radio does not need a code to operate.
Have a great weekend.

Is this info correct? It doesn't jive with what I've read on this forum.
Also, I've ordered a Metra dash kit (faceplate, wiring harness and antenna adapter) so that I can install an after market radio (Pioneer DEH-11E) in the dash of my '01 V70 T5 but I'd like to keep my factory coffee mug holder that is installed now. Has anyone tried to alter the Metra face plate by cutting the left side so there would be room for the factory mug holder?
Will the factory sub woofer still work after I install the new radio using the Metra reverse wiring harness? Will disconnecting the factory radio (HU-613) and factory sub woofer cause error codes in the car's computer? Why is the sky blue?
Excuse me if this info is already on the forum; I haven't been able to find it.
