Has anyone experienced their 2000 Volvo S80 all of a sudden the back door will not open from outside? THey will open from the inside.
Is there something worn out? It appears to be planned obsolence. Especially when both doors are having this problem within the same week.

rear door problems...

I am having the same problem in my 1999 s80, except I accidentally made it worse... I turned the child lock on, so now the inside wont open and the outside either on one side of the car!!!! It sucks! If anyone can give me any information on how to get the door open so I can at least turn the child lock off so I can open it from the inside that would be really great!

Had this same problem when I bought my S80 and i can only imagine its the same problem. I actually had both your problems because one only opened from the inside, one didnt at all. I found out by taking the door panel off the one that did open, that the door opening mechanisim is basically a threaded screw that pushes into a clip of some kind. Not the most well thought out design, but it was easy enough to get in there with a flashlight and see where it needed to go. Its very high up in the door so it can be a bit of a pain to find. But once you get a look at it you can figure it out. As for the door with the broken handle AND child lock, this is where it gets tricky. What I did is got a good look into the door i had the panel off of, remeberd as best i could where the release mechanisem was and well.... Unfolded a coat hanger, rolled down the window and got in there. It took me two tries but only about 10 minutes on the second try. Well, I hope this helps!

Thanks, I actually got this all taken care of but I did it the hard way, I couldnt get the door open so the only way to get to the interior of the door was to cut through the interior door panel, I bought a new one beforehand of course.
I cut through it all and then got it open by reaching in. I found that in mine it was similar except the little threaded thinggy had just slipped out of the little peice somehow so I just wedged it back in for the time being and its been months now and I have not had any problems....

I am sorry but I do not have any pictures of this. its pretty simple though. If you child locks are engaged and you cant open it at all then the best way to open it is to cut a hole from inside the car and just reach it and push down on the latch and the door will open manually, then while you have the door open take it all apart and fix it.
I wish I could be more help but It was months ago....
Let me know if you figure out a better idea.
