I just found this forum and am signing on as a newbie. Info search is due to a problems I can't solve with my 1998 V70XC. This may have been hashed over many times, and if so I apologize in advance.

When I get on the gas pedal the check engine light comes on. The OBD code is PO243 which shows as "wastegate sensor A malfunction". I replaced the control valve and all the associated rubber tubing, but still get the light when I get on the gas. Everything seems to be working OK other that the light coming on.

Any ideas?

Welcome from Atlanta! If you want me to change your user name just send me or user Admin a private message as to what you would like it to say.

The P0243 is 'Turbo / Supercharger Wastegate Solenoid A'. This would result in loss in performance. The turbo wastegate is set-up in such a way that it nominally runs a very low boost pressure. The Wastegate solenoid bleeds the manifold pressure signal back to the airbox to increase the boost pressure. If the EMS sensed a wastegate solenoid fault it would de-activate the solenoid which would give you a sudden drop in boost pressure.

The wastegate solenoid is a small valve about 1" cube and has 3 small ( 4-5mm ) pipes to it. It is located near the airbox, if not actually attached to the side of it.

That is the valve I replaced along with the associated hoses. It's a small black cube with three small hoses and an electrical connector. And as I said, everything seems to be working OK except for the light coming on when I am hard on the gas. I does seem to have more kick than it did before I replaced the valve.

Someone offered the opinion that maybe the computer needs to calibrate the signal from the new valve and I should stay off the turbo for a few days to let that happen. Does that make any sense? I have never had a car with a turbo before so I not sure what to expect.
