I will admit, I don't really know much about cars. I've had my 84 Volvo GL since the end of February. I've put about 4,000 miles on it since I've had it, and it has a grand total of just over 149,000.

Besides the problems I already knew about, like the bad overdrive and oil leaks, she has been leaking coolant. Took her to a local shop and they said she has a big hole in the radiator and they wanted lots of money to fix her. (they also gave me an estimate on how much it would be to fix the oil leaks) Well, I said not today and took her home and sat her in the garage for the weekend. Today I went to look for this "big" hole as it was described to me. I didn't see it, but I did see a hose that was leaking a clear fluid. It is the one with the red arrow pointing to it. Turned her off, I tried to tighten the screw, and turned her back on. Still leaking, but not as bad.

I am surprised they can tell me about the oil leaks, but not catch this. I'm actually really surprised I didn't see it before.

Can someone tell me what is in the hose? Is it just water(that is all that is in the radiator at the moment) or is it something I should be more worried about? (like gas)

Thanks,
Laura

Are you sure it is coming from that hose? Sometime with a leak it can run along other parts. I believe that is a coolant line. If you remove the hose you will probably find that the hose is cracked under the clamp.

If you are looking in on the engine it is on the right side. The hose does have a crack in it, right around where the clap is. But as far as I can see the hose attaches there and goes towards the back of the car.

I took another photo if it helps at all.
